Darkness

A friend called me this morning and told me she is pretty sure she is going to be getting a divorce.

Divorce. I hate that word. To set free, to send away, to dismiss. I'm sure to her those words sound so freeing - but that the disguise of it all, isn't it??

I'm a pretty positive person and I will always choose to believe that change is possible....so what do you say when she calls - when you know you are the only one that knows - when she sounds so cold and distant. Darkness. It's all I could think of. It felt like darkness.

I wanted to tell her that she can't go there - that divorce isn't the answer - that although the courts may tell her the divorce is final and she's free - the reality is there is nothing final about divorce - that the sting lasts forever - that the pain remains. I want to tell her to hold on - to believe in change - to endure...but what do I know???

I was reading a devotional this morning and read these words, "Darkness holds no power when I hold on to the light." Darkness - that's what this is...and the answer is light - the Light. Darkness has NO power over light. And even if she doesn't feel like seeking God for help anymore, it's her only choice. Darkness doesn't solve her darkness problem - only light can!

Satan's plan doesn't change: He has come to steal, kill and destroy. So, my friend can choose to let him continue his pursuit to destroy her marriage and her family - or she can choose to stand in the light.

What do I know??? I know the LIGHT and He's more than enough!!

Unity

Question of the week:

How are we (as a group of women in the church) doing in the area of unity?

One of the very last things Jesus prayed for his disciples was this:
"I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one; I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." John 17:22-23

Jesus said that the world would know Him if they saw unity in us...yet it seems churches have become hot beds for disunity and division. I love that Jesus says that he has given us the same grace he was given by God for us to experience the same kind of perfect unity that he experiences with God. That's amazing!! But are we really there??? Is that what we are experiencing???

If we were to play any part in the body, surely we would be the mouth. You know how we women are - we always have something to say!! Our mouths are powerful and have such amazingly powerful potential to spread harm or good.

All this to say, I'd really like to be intentional about being a voice of unity in our church body.

What does unity look like to you? How can we, as a small group of women, promote the call for unity within our body?
