Be kind to yourself.

What is the kindest thing you can do for yourself today?

Would it be to give yourself a day off from work, from any and all household cleaning, or from your long list of daily to-dos? Would it be to splurge in a little retail therapy, a luxurious spa treatment, or to indulge in a huge slice of pumpkin spice bundt cake with cream cheese frosting?

Maybe your mind went to the way you speak to yourself. You thought about choosing your words more carefully or extending yourself the same grace and forgiveness you offer others.

After listening to this podcast, I’m convinced I know the answer. I know the kindest thing you can do for yourself, and it’s probably not what you think.

The kindest thing you can do for yourself today (and all your days) is to “find the practices that connect you with God and then make space to practice them regularly.”

Only when we connect with God will we experience the joy and freedom of being fully known and fully loved. It is only with Him that the broken places of our life are made whole and His redeeming light begins to shine its way through.

In the presence of God is healing and hope and forgiveness and grace. In the presence of God, fear has to flee, and faith slowly and steadily begins to take root.

Can you think of anything more kind than this—than giving yourself space to spend time with Giver of all good things?

Self-kindness at Christmas

I’ll be the first to admit that in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, when the house is full and everyone is home, it’s easy for me to get so caught up in all the merrymaking that I happily blow my way through the season without ever coming up for air. And then I wonder why I’m so exhausted and depleted come January.

That’s exactly why we created A Meaningful Christmas.

We wrote this little book to help you create space to spend time with Jesus during the Christmas season. We hope it becomes one way you show yourself some kindness this Christmas season.

And this year, we’re excited to announce that we now have a student version A Meaningful Christmas.

A Meaningful Christmas for students follows the same daily topics as the family and women’s version, but it’s written specifically with our teenagers in mind. We hope you’ll buy this little book for all the special teenagers in your life and teach them how to show themselves a little kindness too.

Happy Thanksgiving, all.

And Merry Christmas!!
