A Few Fun Finds to Share

hey all!
Is it beginning to feel a little like fall where you live?  This weekend was our first taste of cooler temps, and it’s been glorious.  We’re not quite to jeans, boots and scarves yet, but it’s coming!  Let’s be honest: It’s September in Texas – I’ll take a cool breeze when I get it!

There are so many things I could share with you about what I’ve been learning and the ways I have seen God at work, but for now how about a few fun finds for this last week in September?!?

#1: Daughters of the King: Finding Your Place in the Biblical Story by Melissa Deming
When my Bible study came out over a year ago, Melissa was so generous with advice and help in spreading the word.  Today, I get to return the favor.  Check out her very first eBook Bible study: Daughters of the King.

‘Daughters of the King: Finding Your Place in the Biblical Story’ is an eBook on the ‘big picture’ of Scripture packed into 10 lessons. Inside this study, readers will receive a systematic look at how the Bible is arranged around the topic of God’s kingdom and how God’s kingdom applies to women today – as Daughters of the King.

The study is written for small group or individual use, and when readers subscribe to  Melissa’s site they’ll receive a free downloadable workbook to use  along with the eBook.

Melissa has also set up a Pinterest page with so many great ideas for hosting a “Daughters of the King” study group. **Rich in Biblical truth and big picture perspective, Melissa beautifully walks us through the comprehensive story of God’s Kingdom in a wonderfully relatable way.  Yes! This eBook study is a great resource for anyone! Go get your copy here.

#2:  gods at war: Defeating the Idols that Battle for your Heart by Kyle Idleman

“In gods at war, Kyle Idleman, bestselling author of Not a Fan, helps every believer recognize there are false gods at war within each of us, and they battle for the place of glory and control in our lives. What keeps us from truly following Jesus is that our hearts are pursuing something or someone else. While these pursuits may not be the ‘graven images’ of old, they are in fact modern day idols. Behind the sin you’re struggling with, the discouragement you’re dealing with, the lack of purpose you’re living with is a false god that is winning the war for your heart.”

Oui. This book is “get-in-your-business” good.

Don’t read this book for warm fuzzies.  You won’t find them here.  But if you’re willing to open wide for a good soul cleanin’, this is the book for you.

You simply can’t read this book and walk away unchanged.

#3: The Valley of Vision: A Collection of Puritan Prayers and Devotions

My neighbor recently gave me this book, and it has quickly become my favorite new thing.

After about three pages in, I was completely overwhelmed by the beauty and richness of these prayers.  Although the language is sometimes difficult (most of these prayers are from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries), I’m consistently taken in by the depth of theology and devotion found in these prayers.

With each prayer just one page in length, I slowly drink down one prayer a day with my first cup of coffee.

“The soul learns to pray by praying …”

So, if you’re growing tired of watered down faith – if you’re hungry for Spirit-filled words to stir your heart and ignite the fire within – this book, these prayers, are for you!

Can you handle just one more?!
This is just too perfect not to share (and it’s not a book!!)

It’s a new fall design from Jones Design Company.  Isn’t it beautiful?!? You can find this print and more here.

ok. Enough from me.
I’ll end with a small portion of one prayer from The Valley of Vision:

“May the truth that is in Him
illuminate in {us} all that is dark,
establish in {us} all that is wavering,
comfort in {us} all that is wretched,
accomplish in {us} all that is of thy goodness,
and glorify in {us} the name of Jesus.”
Today and forever more.  Amen!
