In 2009, I was on the hunt for an Advent devotional to read with my kids that would help us focus on the true meaning of Christmas. After scouring the internet and coming up empty, I decided to write my own.
About half way through December I told my friends about this little daily devotional I was doing with my kids. They all loved the idea and wanted to read it with their families too. After reading through it, my friend Brittney had a brilliant idea. “What if we made ornaments to go with the devotional???” At first I thought it would be too much work, but Brittney’s wheels were already turning.
And with that … A MEANINGFUL CHRISTMAS was birthed.
The next year, Brittney and I asked our friends to be our guinea pigs. The concept was this: Find 24 willing friends. Assign each person with a topic that corresponds with one of the day’s devotions. Create an ornament. Reproduce ornament 24 times. Come to a “Swapping Party” to exchange ornaments. Take home 24 unique, homemade ornaments to use as we read through A Meaningful Christmas with our families.
Here are a few pictures from that fun night.
Since that year, A Meaningful Christmas has been read in thousands of homes around the world.
Over the course of seven years, we have seen some super cute ornaments.
And this year … finally … after seven years, A Meaningful Christmas is getting a major upgrade.
We’re excited to announce that we now have new, beautifully-bound, published books to offer this year!! YaHOOOOO!!!
We couldn’t be more excited.
So, if you have elementary school aged kids or younger and have yet to participate, we hope you and your friends will join us this year. Gather a group of 24 and email us at AMeaningfulChristmas@yahoo.com. You can check our website for all the details.
