While I’m away, I’m sharing this space with a Meghan Joy Yancy, a fellow blogger-mom and pursuer of Jesus. I asked Meghan to answer the question, “What does living with Jesus look like in your day-to-day?” Here is her response:
Reading the words, “living with Jesus” almost brought tears to my eyes.
Really, just pause for a moment. Open your heart and your soul. Let those words sink into your very being.
Living with Jesus.
What does that look like for you? Let me share what that means to me.
Life with Jesus
Automatically I think about how I live with my husband and kids. We live in our home together. We do life together. We eat, sleep, work and play together. 24/7. When I relate “life with Jesus” to that, I feel I falter in my attempts to “live with Jesus.”
Sure, I sneak moments in throughout the day, but is His very being SATURATED into my daily on-goings? Am I reminded of His presence through my work and play? Through my daily tasks, errands and to-dos? Through my rolling around with the kids on the floor, homeschooling, and even snuggling up on the couch? Some days, yes. And some days, no.
I have the pleasure and blessing of being a stay-at-home mom, and it’s truly a dream I get to live out every day. Our entire home-school curriculum is Christian based so I get to talk about God with my kids all day. We start our day with prayer. We pray if there are attitudes abounding. We pray before tests. We pray before meals and we pray before bedtime. We learn scriptures, we have praise time, and I have worship music playing in the home all day long. I love that I get the opportunity to center most of what we do around Christ.
But when I go back to “living with Jesus,” I feel the conviction of being more intentional with the depth of my relationship with Jesus. I want to have that INTIMATE time with him, just as I do with my husband and my kids. Those moments of deep conversation. Those moments where memories are built. Those moments that end up being a cornerstone of change in my very depth. That’s what I need more of my in my every day.
More of Jesus
It’s not just talking about God – not just reading about Him in our history book. It’s deeper that. It’s reaching that level of intimacy that only happens when you LIVE with someone and are surrounded by their presence every single day.
Yes, all that other stuff is GOOD. Continue on in that. Read the Bible, pray, talk about God, learn about Him, commune with others, fellowship with others, gather with the Church. Do that all. And also, LIVE WITH JESUS. Today. Every day. Make time for those moments with Him that go past the surface into the core where the transformation begins.
I want to remember that – to LIVE WITH JESUS. Like He has a place in our home. He has a seat at our table. A sunken in spot on the couch. A spot in our car. A place to lay His head while we all snuggle. That Jesus is here with us. His presence is felt and seen. That there is this tangible love in our home and we can’t help but be changed by it. By Him.
Today, let Jesus be your friend. Let him be your groom. Let Him be your Savior. Let him encapsulate every ounce of your being and saturate your soul with His grace, His joy and His peace. Let this start in your home, simply by choosing to live WITH Him.
