Unity

Question of the week:

How are we (as a group of women in the church) doing in the area of unity?

One of the very last things Jesus prayed for his disciples was this:
“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one; I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” John 17:22-23

Jesus said that the world would know Him if they saw unity in us…yet it seems churches have become hot beds for disunity and division. I love that Jesus says that he has given us the same grace he was given by God for us to experience the same kind of perfect unity that he experiences with God. That’s amazing!! But are we really there??? Is that what we are experiencing???

If we were to play any part in the body, surely we would be the mouth. You know how we women are – we always have something to say!! Our mouths are powerful and have such amazingly powerful potential to spread harm or good.

All this to say, I’d really like to be intentional about being a voice of unity in our church body.

What does unity look like to you? How can we, as a small group of women, promote the call for unity within our body?

Unity in a biblical way means we have to have the same goals. We might go on different path to that same goal, but we should be ok with one another to get there in our own personal ways. Unity does not mean conformity. unity means accepting that we are all uniquely different and yet all made in his image. I think we forget that God himself is like the white light going though a Prism( Remember that from Physics class?) and that is how we are, each one of us just a different aspect of God! If we would keep that in mind we would do a lot better with accepting one another the way we are. We perhaps could even agree to disagree. In Christ there is no longer, women, men, Husband, wife, greek or jew….right?
We really do not life that in Christianity at all, believe me, I lived on both sides of the Atlantic and I never really quite fit in, on either side. Wonder why? 🙂 Humor, do not forget Humor. the less serious we take ourselves, the better we do with accepting others and their quirks. 🙂
Looking forward what you have to say about unity! 🙂 I need that!!!! Not good at it either! 🙂 Sorry sisters. But I am enjoying you guys more and more! 🙂
