I have a new favorite thing that I have to share with you,
and it’s for our kids.
It’s called the Child Training Bible, and it looks like this:
One night when I went upstairs to tuck in the kids, Rylie (our middle miss) began voicing her frustrations in reading her Bible. She said that she wanted to read and memorize scripture, but she didn’t know where to look. She said that there were too many verses and she didn’t understand it all.
Ever been there? I have.
Sometimes the Bible can seem intimating and overwhelming. I get that.
That’s when I remembered about a Child Training Bible that I heard about from my friend, Brittney.
“The Child Training Bible is tool that allows parents and children (and anyone that loves the Word of God) to go directly to the pages of Scripture for instruction in 20 key areas with a complete section dedicated to the gospel.
The CTB was designed with Colossians 3:9-10 in mind. “You have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self.” The Scriptures selected for the CTB teach why we are to “put off” certain behavior and what godly behavior we are to “put on” instead.
The front key of the CTB is a visual index of the areas that Scripture teaches us to “put off.” These areas correspond to color-coded tabs and highlighted text. CTB Scriptures address both negative and positive responses with the emphasis on Jesus Himself, His perfect life as an example and gift to us.”
Ok. Now I have goose-bumps. Put off. Put on. I just wrote a whole Bible study about that. Deal sealed! A few clicks later, it was purchased.
Here’s a picture of my girls highlighting and tabbing.
You can check out the website to get all the details, but here’s what I love most about the Child’s Training Bible:
1. My girls are IN the Word. Flipping. Highlighting. Tabbing. As they highlighted, they read each verse a loud and I marveled at God as He began to etch His Word on my girl’s young hearts.
2. They are becoming more confident in approaching the Word independently. By looking up almost 200 verses, both girls have learned the order of the books and how to quickly find the verses that they are looking for. That is huge to me at ages 7 and 9.
3. They think it’s FUN! As I continue to pray that God grows in them a hunger for the Word, for now I’m thrilled that they think this is fun.
If your kids are too young to do the “work” on their own, that’s ok. I think it’s worth it anyway. You can highlight and tab a family Bible and use it as a go-to resource for parenting with scripture.
Ok – that’s all I’ve got. Two thumbs up for the Child’s Training Bible!

that is awesome! We don't have it, but it's definitely on my list when the boys get a little older! What a lovely picture of your girls in the Word too!
