01/12/13

Here’s to a year full of faith!

I love January.
Besides being the month of my birth, which has already passed (Happy Birthday to me), it’s a month of fresh starts and new beginnings.  Like I said before, it makes me kind of giddy.  But, what I didn’t tell you is that I don’t think that I’ve ever writen down
a New Year’s Resolution.  Ever.
With that being said, I approach 2013 wide-eyed with possibilities.
Like never before, I feel God moving and I want to be a part of it.
Whatever it is.  With all my heart.
For the last week or so two verses have taken permanent residence in my mind.
I’m taking the hint that God is trying to say something … like maybe these two verses need to be my theme verses for the year, or at least for as long as they fit what God is trying to do in me.  Who knows, maybe God will use them to speak to you in a fresh, current way too.
So, this post is me digging in and writing them down.
The first verse is like the old blanket I sit under every time I’m on the couch –
navy blue, light weight and warm with down – it will be my forever favorite.

I’m sure none of us will ever outgrow this verse.  Here’s how it’s challenging me right now …

Trust in the Lord with all your heart …
To trust means to fully rely on.  It’s a picture of physically leaning upon someone with confidence in their ability to hold you up.  It’s time to trust – to lean in while you confide in – the Father.

and lean not on your own understanding …
Don’t depend or rely on what you think you know, what you think you understand or even what you see. You don’t have to have this all figured out.  That’s not your job.
Your job is to trust, remember?  Lean.

in all your ways acknowledge Him …
In ALL you do – seek Him, listen for His voice, and recognize that HE IS.
{Not just when you feel desperate or in need.  All the time.}
He gets the praise, and He gets the glory.

and He will direct your path …
He will show you the right path, the smooth, straight way, the way He has planned for you.
{And He never said the right way would be easy or even comfortable, by the way.}

I think often times we make things more complicated than they need to be.

What I need to remember is that God is GOD.
He is who He says He is.
He is full of compassion, goodness, mercy and grace.
{So much grace!}
So when He asks me to trust Him – to lean in – and believe that He’s got me,
I need to believe that it’s true.
In God’s infinite wisdom and infinite goodness, He will always do what’s best for me.  Always.

And this will be my new mantra:

Yep. That’s going to be me this year.
Bring it, 2013!

(My second theme verse post is coming soon.)
