uphold
to carry, to keep from falling,
to maintain or support, to sustain
The word jumped out at me as I read:
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature,
and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.
Hebrews 1:3
How can you not smile at these words? He upholds the universe by the power of His word. The truth of it is stunning to me. The very universe is upheld, maintained, guided, propelled and sustained simply because Jesus says so.
That’s BIG.
And yet it’s not in the bigness of the way that He upholds that gets to me.
It’s in the smallness of it.
And yet it’s not in the bigness of the way that He upholds that gets to me.
It’s in the smallness of it.

In him, all things hold together.
Yes. He upholds the universe, but included in those all things is me.
In Jesus, I am held together.
I am carried, supported, maintained and sustained by the power of His word.
I don’t have to hold it together. (Which is fabulous because I can’t.)
But when yielded to Jesus, He does it for me.
He upholds all things.

He upholds all things.
My strength, my joy, my sanity until bedtime.
My friendships, my mind, my up and down emotions.
My patience, my marriage, my every.last.nerve.
Jesus is our only ability to hold it all together.
{To do for us that which we have no hope of doing on our own.}
This is good news. A deep sign of relief for a Wednesday.
Jesus upholds.
Fill in the blank and rest in this truth …
In Jesus, ____________ is held together.
(Now get your hand off it and let Him.)
Happy Wednesday, friends!
