Each day Jesus was teaching in the temple and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives, and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple. Luke 21:37-38
It’s Monday morning and my mind is spinning, tossing and turning over all the things I have to do. Coffee in hand, I transfer the chaos in my head to paper, and the list runs long as I write them down.
Do you start your week the same? Overwhelmed with the tasks that loom ahead?
Surely Jesus felt the weight of His day to day. Like us, His days were full. His responsibilities and burdens were great. The difference? Jesus knew the priority of getting away. He knew His Source was waiting for Him there, in this place called the Mount of Olives. It was there that He was restored, refueled and replenished for another day. There was no mustering up the strength to press on. Jesus didn’t pull Himself up by the boot straps to get the job done. His strength rested solely in the hands of His Father.
Have you found this place of refuge, your hill called Mount of Olives? Have you looked in the quiet of a bedroom or outside along the trail you walk? Have you found this place of rest behind the closed door of a bathroom or after a deep breathe at the kitchen sink. Our God is watching and waiting for us to come – lives poured out and feeling empty, so that He can make us full. Hearts turned in quiet reverence to The Giver of all good things … He’s there. Waiting.
Today’s challenge: With long lists looming, will I choose first to turn to Him? And again after coffee? after lunch? as I wait in the car pool pick up line? when hungry mouths are waiting for dinner on the table? when it’s past time for my munchkins to be in bed? when pressures of the day get heavy – will I turn again and find Him?
