Do you ever think about the fact that every time you open your Bible, it is as if you are reading it for the very first time? The Word of God never changes, it’s true. But we do. We are ever-changing. And our circumstances are ever-evolving. So, the “me” who opened the Word yesterday is not the same girl who opens it today {by the grace of God}.
And that’s why it’s an adventure every time!
Each day we open the Word, we open our hearts to a fresh, personal Word from Him.
Now that’s cool stuff, if you ask me!!
Again in Mark, with a story I’ve read before, God lightly taps on my heart and presents a teachable moment.
It’s His Word for me today!
Jesus is watching the crowd put money into the temple collection box, when He notices a poor widow make her offering.
“Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, ‘I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth, but she, out of her poverty, put in everything – all she had to live on.”
Instead of the usual giving/money application, God took this verse and applied it in a different way.
The widow gave out of her poverty – out of where she was lacking.
This woman gave an offering from her void and Jesus stood applauding. “Do you see this, my disciples? Do you see what this widow is doing? She is worshipping my Father in the very place that she is lacking.” (At least that’s what I imagine Him saying.)
Do I ever do that?
Just like this woman, I have places of void – placing I am lacking – empty holes that need to be filled. Do I fill those holes with worship? Do I surrender my everything even in the places where I feel like I have nothing?
Today’s Challenge: Find some time today when you can escape to a “lonely place” like Jesus did and worship Him. Ask him to fill every void in your life with His perfect love. You might try to spend some time journaling, listen to your favorite worship music, or read God’s Word. Allow Jesus to satisfy your deepest needs today.
