Walking Low – Part 1

There’s a lot to be said for humble beginnings – for starting the day with your knees to the carpet and face to the floor. But after words are spoken, after hearts and minds have bent in submission, the new challenge is in the getting up.

The real challenge is in walking low … it’s in walking humbly with our God (Micah 6:8).

So the question now stands: How do we go about our day AND maintain this posture of humility? Because truth be told, it doesn’t take long for either me, myself or I to get in the way. There’s just something about me that likes … well, me. Can you relate?
There are four “S” words to mull over as we navigate through our day – words that teach of walking low. Let’s break them down to one-a-day. Just bite size pieces we can chew on, ingest and put into practice.
#1: SELFLESS

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:3-4
Selflessness teaches others first. It honors, elevates and cheers others on. It puts aside it’s own desires, plans and personal gain in order to defer to the other. It considers others better than itself.
It says, “Your need is more important than my schedule.”
It says, “You first” when the line is long.
It says “Let’s play!” – instead of checking chores off my to-do list.
It says “Tell me about you” – instead of talking about me.
Today’s Challenge: Practice humility. Learn selflessness. Honor the Lord as you defer to and honor one another.
