May Favorites

Hey all! Today I’m sharing a few of my current favorite things.

my favorites - May

#1: THIS BIBLE STUDY

If you want a better understanding of the complete “story” of the Bible – if you’ve ever been lost or confused about how all the different books of the Bible fit together – if you’ve ever wanted to learn more about the key people of the Bible – if you’ve never understood “Why Jesus?” – this is the Bible study for you!

In a matter of six weeks, Angie Smith walks us through the key people, places and events of scripture and explains how they all work together to tell one giant story of redemption. She does it in a way that is not only understandable, but also relate-able.

I loved this study, and I think you will too!

#2: PROJECTS AROUND THE HOUSE

I got an idea in my head that we needed a table for our back patio. It needed to be long. It needed to have plenty of seating. And my husband needed to make it for me.

I found a picture of a table I liked on Pinterest, and after a little arm twisting, this is what he made for me. It is our new favorite thing.

Cue heart eyes and happy dance. He’s a pretty talented dude. Our extended family of 12 enjoyed Mother’s Day dinner on this table this weekend. It was perfect.

Want to see another “copy” my husband made for me?

When my mom passed down her church pew, I knew this hall space would become the perfect place for a make-shift catch-all. The hooks hold all of our light weight jackets, bags and purses. The baskets underneath hold all the kid’s shoes.

Just in case you are getting the wrong idea … this cute spot usually looks like this:

Another favorite of mine is this white board.

I found this great frame in downtown McKinney and had a white board cut (from Home Depot) to fit. This hangs in the center of our house and displays our weekly calendar. This board keeps our family in order and everyone in the right place at the right time.

One more?

Erik made this shelf to go over our breakfast room window (also copied from a magazine picture. Pre-Pinterest). It serves as a window treatment and displays my collection of white pitchers.

I love these places in our house because we made them together. They are part of what makes this house our home.

#3: THIS BOOK

A friend texted me and told me that she had just started re-reading (except she was listening, via Audible) to this book. She asked, “Listen with me?” This is easily one of my favorites books, so I couldn’t say no.

Yall – If you haven’t read this book, will you please read it? Like now?

It’s a fictional account of the book of Hosea (from the Bible). Hosea was commanded by God to marry an unfaithful woman, knowing all the while she would break his heart over and over again. It’s the story of God’s relentless love for Israel (and us), whose heart is constantly lured by lesser loves. It’s the most beautiful, redemptive love story. If you don’t already love Jesus, you just might fall in love with Him through this book. It’s that good.

What are some of your favorite things? A new song? A book? A new recipe? I’d love to hear from you.

I LOVE Redeeming Love! I heard about it for years, but was stubborn and didn’t want to just jump on the bandwagon with everyone when they were reading it. So sad I didn’t! I may have to pull it out and re-read it. Did you do the audio version? If so, how was it?

I did the same thing Angel. All my friends were reading it in college, so I didn’t. But I’m glad I waited and read it when I did. The timing was right for me to get swept up in the beauty and grace of it all. And yes – this time I listened to it through the Audible app. It was kind of torture to stay present in the story and not be able to skim or look ahead (I couldn’t believe how much I forgot!!), but I’m pretty sure there’s a discipline in that for me. I loved it all over again and cried my eyes out at the end. Such an amazing book.
