Spring Break Randomness

It’s Spring Break around here, and I couldn’t be happier. I love it when all of my little people are home. I could do this spring break – perfect weather – sleeping in – kids running in and out – togetherness thing for a few more weeks.  Pretty please?

So, instead of rolling into the “Is it summer-time yet?” blues, I bring you:

SPRING BREAK RANDOMNESS

1. I’ve mentioned it before, but I love doing little projects around the house.
This week I snuck in two.
This little desk lives in #2’s room but she was in desperate need of a paint job
(the desk, not the child.)
How cute is she now?

I’ve been wanting to put something over my kitchen sink for awhile now but have never found the right thing, so I decided to make something.
(Forgive the picture. It’s hard to get a good shot with that window.)

The burlap canvas I saw at Hobby Lobby was my inspiration. I was planning to paint it but when I was digging through all my paint stuff looking for the right paint brush, I stumbled upon this.
It’s a charcoal pencil, which I haven’t used since middle school art class. Although it smears easily (kind of like chalk), it worked perfectly for this project.

The word “abide” means, “to stay, remain as one, dwell.” It’s one of my very favorite words. A perfect focus for above my kitchen sink.

2. I had a marvelous plan to deep clean one room a day during this week at home. I started off well.
Yes. It was very clean. Here it is today; Just 3 days later.
And that, my friends, is called reality. I only got to 3 rooms. Oh well.

3. This feels like a confession, but I need you to know: I really like the movie High School Musical. Actually I like all 3 of them. If you forced me to pick a favorite, I couldn’t.  And as long as I’m confessing: I cry at almost every movie I watch, including the cheesy teenie-bopper movies like High School Musical.

4. I came across this the other day on Pinterest, and I’m thinking that it will be the perfect St. Patty’s Day treat (which is on Monday the 17th, just in case you forgot.)
(source)
It’s made with Lime Sherbet and any kind of Lemon-Lime soda. Yum-o!

My sister just told me the story about St. Patrick.
How have I never heard this story before?
Apparently there are many tales about him, but here’s my very short version, based on what I’ve read: Patrick was kidnapped as a teenager by a band of pirates and sold into slavery in Ireland (during which time God became very real to him).  After 6 years, he escaped and fled back home to England.  There he became a devout follower and was eventually called to take the gospel of Jesus back to the people of Ireland.  Now that’s a story worth telling our kids!

You can read more about the story of St. Patrick here and here.

5. Speaking of green, I’ve been craving this pesto pasta recipe that my friend Libby makes. I’m going to have to make it next week.  It looks like this:
INGREDIENTS:

1 package (9 ounces) BUITONI Refrigerated Three Cheese Tortellini
1 container (7 ounces) BUITONI Refrigerated All Natural Pesto with Basil
3 tablespoons cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 to 3 cups cooked chicken or turkey , cut into strips or cubes
1 1/2 cups sliced and halved zucchini
1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper

DIRECTIONS:
PREPARE pasta according to package directions; rinse in cold water and drain.
COMBINE pesto, vinegar, seasoned salt, sugar and pepper; mix well. Add chicken, pasta, zucchini and bell pepper. Toss well. Serve immediately or refrigerate.

It’s always good to end with food, so I’ll spare you anymore randomness.
Well, except for this …

Today, let’s choose to be a living “YES” to Christ –
someone who is willing to show up to the life that God has given her –
someone who will wake up and engage.
I want to be that girl.
Don’t you?

Happy weekend all!
