A Post for the New Year

completed sheet

This week between Christmas and New Years is one of my favorites. It’s like a deep, spacious pocket {of time} we are given to reflect on the year gone by as well as time to begin looking ahead to the coming year.

For the last couple of years these questions have guided me as I’ve reflected back on my year.

This year I’ve opted for something a little more simple by dividing the fruit of my year into three categories:

  • THINGS TO KEEP.
  • THINGS TO TOSS.
  • THINGS TO RECLAIM.

I tried to think through every aspect of my life when working on my list, including: parenting, my marriage, friendships and other relationships, family life, physical changes (positive and negative), emotional changes (positive and negative), spiritual growth, habits (good and bad), roles and responsibilities, and anything else that came to mind.

After I finished my Looking Back list, I found this simple tool to begin Looking Ahead. I’ve compiled the two together to make this printable sheet:

I’m not big on New Years Resolutions, but these words were fun to think through and have given me a few specific things to aspire to in the coming year.

I’m still praying through my one word for 2016, but after a date night of brainstorming/planning with my husband, I’m super excited for what’s ahead. We’ve got some fun, new projects in the works and a few more on the horizon. It’s going to be a great year!

What do you do to prepare for the New Year? I’d love to hear from you!
