… “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God … James 4:6-7
How do we walk low? #3: SUBMISSIVE
The word, submission, means “to give over or yield to the power or authority of another.” We are called to submit to God – to yield to His authority – to let Him be in change (because He IS actually the One in charge, ya know). Or put simply – we are called to obey. Our submission to God is manifested in ready obedience to the Lord.
Watching my kids struggle and strain towards obedience has taught me so much in regards to my obedience to God. I have a friend who tells her kids that she wants them to obey “right away, all the way and in a happy way.” Isn’t that the same kind of obedience God requires of His children? No hesitation. No attitude. Just obey!
Humility always places itself under God. It yields its will to the will of the Father. It says, “Yes!” without hesitation or reservation.
“Submit yourselves to God. Learn the sweetness of lying passive in His hand, and knowing no will but His: learn the blessedness of giving yourselves up entirely to His divine sway, for in so doing you will enter into heaven below.” (Spurgeon)
Today’s Challenge: Maybe walking low today begins with obedience. Is there some part of your life where you are having a difficult time “Just obeying?”
